Steve was raised as a child in Calaveras County, California and later lived in Redding when the family moved in 1961.  After high school Steve attended and graduated from Shasta College in 1967 and entered the military.

Steve is a veteran of the United States Army, first as an enlisted man and then commissioned as an officer.  Steve went to Vietnam in 1969 at the age of 21 and was a a part of a 5 man Mobile Advisory Team (MAT) living with various Vietnamese units with the MAT tearm.  Steve spent the following year with MAT III-97 in Tay Ninh Province as an Advisor to the Regional Forces units in the area.  MAT 97 also work with various 3/22nd units of the 25th Division on combined operations.  During Steve's tour of duty was award the Bronze Star and Army Commendation medal for valor and was also cited for bravery by the Vietnamese and awarded the Cross of Gallantry.  As a Vietnam veteran, Steve is a member of the Vietnam Veteran Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars and The American Legion.

After the military, Steve joined the Redding Police Department where he would advance to the Investigations Division and handle various major and complex crimes.  Steve was also a team leader on a SWAT team.  While an officer, Steve attended and graduated from Chico State and with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration.  Steve also joined the Army Reserves 91st Division and was promoted to Captain where he was a Company Commander and served on the Battalion Staff.

In 1983 Steve, left Redding to go to law school in Sacramento.  in 1988 he graduated from Lincoln Law School of Sacramento with a Juris Doctor Degree.

While attending law school, Steve was a Criiminal Investigator for the Sacramento District Attorney's Office and later became a Deputy District Attorney until 1990.

In 1994 Steve was elected as the Amador County District Attorney and retired 1999 after over 20 years in public service.

Steve now uses his law enforcement and prosecution experience to enhance his private practice in the foothills counties of the gold country.

Diversity of Experience

Steve has a diversity of experience that few attorney's will ever experience.  It is this experience that serves the basis of knowledge for dealing with each client.  Experience that exceeds that which any college or law school classroom could ever possibly convey.  So often Steve has found that 'life's experiences' are important in not only understanding the impact in legal cases for people but also in explaining our legal system in a manner that people can understand.
